If you need a vehicle, there are many great reasons to buy a new car: maybe you want the sense of prestige that may come with it, for instance But in today’s economy, when people are taking a serious look at their finances and are cutting back when they can, more consumers than ever are opting to purchase a used vehicle

The number one reason why people opt for used or preowned cars is, of course, money! Many consumers don’t know that a new auto will depreciate on average between $3,000 to $5,000 the minute it is driven off the lot; with high end vehicles, the amount is even more Savvy buyers are not willing to eat that cost themselves and prefer to leave it to others by purchasing their car already used

By purchasing preowned, a buyer is also saving money by not paying for the dealership and manufacturer’s costs for a new car For instance, the transportation fees incurred by the dealer to get the car to the lot in the first place are passed on to the initial purchaser Other costs passed on to the owner of a new car include dealer advertising expenses and any add-ons they may have put on as well

Once a dealer has fixed on the price of a new car, it’s fairly well established and there is very little wiggle room for negotiation

On the other hand, a buyer can find a preowned car to suit any size budget You are in charge of deciding what features are important to you within your price range, what kind of mileage you are willing to accept, and so on If you are perfectly fine with having a car in less than mint condition, you will no doubt get it for a lower price and may not even have to take out a loan In other words, the buyer is in control and you can shop around and not have to accept certain features as standard

The risks with buying used cars are usually associated with purchasing from a stranger who is in no way accountable for any problems which may arise down the road Buying from a reputable preowned car dealer is one way to get assurance that the vehicle you have selected comes with some guarantees and will not have hidden surprises later

Many good dealers will offer certifications and other evidence that the car you are purchasing does indeed have the history its previous owners say it does A dealer will provide support and assistance during the time you own your vehicle and will have a wide selection for you to look at and choose from all in one place

In these tough times, buying used makes great economic sense You will have the vehicle you need without having to overextend yourself financially to do it That translates into reliable transportation and a better night’s sleep too
